Allegheny Observatory

The Allegheny Observatory is one of the major astronomical research institutions of the world.  It is located in RiverviewPark, four miles north of the Golden Triangle (downtown Pittsburgh).

Allegheny West

This tiny historic community--officially the smallest neighborhood in Pittsburgh--is a lively, vibrant, and exciting place to live, just as it was a century ago when it was the "Gold Coast" of the cities of Pittsburgh and Allegheny. The famous "Millionaire's Row" was the leading edge of a very distinctive collection of residences (from mansions to humble dwellings) and residents (from robber barons to their servants).

Andy Warhol Museum

The museum, housed in a renovated seven-floor warehouse building, displays more than 500 works of art, drawn from its extensive collections of works by Andy Warhol in all media, as well as from its huge archives and a collection of works by other artists.
The galleries are ever-changing, exhibiting works arranged in an integrated, interdisciplinary manner. With film, video, and archival materials shown together with paintings, prints, and drawings, the museum offers the visitor a comprehensive presentation of the development of Warhol's work.

Brighton Heights

As the name suggests, Brighton Heights is a hilltop community in the city’s Northside. This 718 acre neighborhood offers a backyard view of the city skyline and the Ohio River as it winds its way west. Residents are close to downtown, yet live adjacent to the suburban communities of Bellevue and Ross Township. Once a predominately German area, Brighton Heights today has a varied ethnic character.

In architecture as well as population, Brighton Heights blends the best of the new and the old. Large, stately homes stand next to newer ones; old churches are complemented by new developments such as the New Allegheny town homes on Cobbler Circle. In this tight-knit neighborhood, you’ll find generations of families living side-by-side, long-time residents next door to young families. And it is not uncommon to meet people who have lived in the neighborhood all their lives, and are second and third generation residents.

Residents speak proudly about their family-oriented community, where neighbors look after one another, and where you seldom walk down the street without seeing someone you know. Sturdy and solid like its buildings, Brighton Heights is a stable community. Residents are active in the community and take responsibility for maintaining a high quality of life.

Carnegie Science Center

Opened in 1991 on Pittsburgh's NorthShore, CarnegieScienceCenter is a dynamic, interactive facility that promotes the critical role science and technology play in our world. With its commitment to presenting science that is entertaining, accessible, and relevant, CarnegieScienceCenter is recognized as the foremost science education center for students, teachers, and the general public in southwestern Pennsylvania.
The ScienceCenter currently houses the Rangos Omnimax Theater, an interactive planetarium, a genuine World War II submarine, and more than 300 exciting hands-on exhibits. It also offers a wide range of theater presentations, demonstrations, classes and workshops, and special events.

Childrens Musuem

Children's Museum of Pittsburgh has been housed within the Old Post Office building since 1983 and is recognized as a regional asset for its adaptive use of historic property. The 20,000 square foot building of Italian Renaissance design is listed with the National Registry of Historic Places and was designed by William Aiken, architect for the U.S. Treasury Department. It is graced with a four-story, copper domed rotunda adjoined by an enclosed courtyard. The building opened in 1897 as the main post office for the city of Allegheny and was saved from destruction by Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Association. It was deeded to the Children's Museum in 1991.

Heinz Field

Heinz Field isn't just a destination on game days, but throughout the year. The 2004 fall schedule includes home games for the Steelers and University of Pittsburgh. Also, enjoy the taping of the McDonald's Steelers Kids Zone Show and the Jerome Bettis Show, which take place in the Coca-Cola Great Hall.

Historic Deutschtown

Also the website of East Allegheny Community Council, includes information on Housing, Events, and the History of the neighborhood.

Mexican War Streets

Located on Pittsburgh’s North Side, in the heart of the former City of Allegheny, the Mexican War Streets is designated both federally and by the City of Pittsburgh as a historic Victorian-era district. Nearly all the architectural types popular in the Victorian era are represented in the Mexican War Streets: Italianate, Gothic Revival, Richardson Romanesque, Empire and Queen Anne. A number of historically significant houses in the neighborhood are listed in the National Registry of Historic Places and have City of Pittsburgh historic designations.

National Aviary

The National Aviary is America’s only independent indoor nonprofit bird zoo. Located in historic North Side’s WestPark. The Aviary is home to 600+ birds of more than 200 species. Many are threatened or endangered in the wild. Our natural, planted exhibits allow visitors an up-close view of the bird world. From hummingbirds to Andean Condors, the birds represent nearly every continent, with a particular emphasis on rainforest and wetland habitats.

North Shore Trail

The NorthShore section of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail system extends from below the West End Bridge to Millvale. From there, it transforms into rail line access road to as far as Shaler and the 62nd Street Bridge. While not part of the trail proper, this section is commonly used by bikers and pedestrians.

The
NorthShore has numerous places to see and visit: Heinz Field, PNC Park, the Carnegie Science Center, Kayak Pittsburgh, Vietnam and Korean Veterans memorials, as well as some nice views of Pittsburgh. There is a pedestrian bridge at the Ft. Duquesne Bridge to take you across to Point State Park and from there you can connect to other sections of the trail and points South.

PNC Park

From its NorthSide site, PNCPark provides a dramatic sweeping view of downtown Pittsburgh. The Allegheny River and Roberto Clemente (6th Street) Bridge also provide prominent landmarks in the ballpark vista. The steel structure, stone front and pilasters, dramatic masonry arches along the homeplate entryway, and a steel roof evoke memories of Forbes Field. The archways lead to a public arcade, open year round, that features shops, restaurants, and a Pirates Hall of Fame. The ballpark fits snuggly into the existing city grid, similar to classic urban parks like Wrigley and Fenway.

Venture Outdoors

Venture Outdoors is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to making the outdoor recreation community a vibrant centerpiece of this region.
Founded in June 2001, we believe that our region has not yet tapped its assets in outdoor recreation to contribute to a vibrant lifestyle and make this a region people want to call home.

Washington's Landing

Located on the western bank of the Allegheny River, Washington's Landing is a 42-acre island approximately two miles from Pittsburgh's Golden Triangle. This once blighted island was transformed into a high-quality, multi-use development, including market-rate housing, office/research and development, and light industrial uses. It also features a marina, a rowing center, and a public park.
