In 2003, faced with the downsizing of his Telecommunications job, Strovers found himself at a difficult crossroads after almost 20 years in the same profession. What could have marked a downturn in his own future he now calls a “blessing in disguise”. With encouragement from friends, and especially his son, Strovers embarked on a new career and created Artistic Pursuits- Photography and More.

His unique images of the city and the Northside capture the beauty of Pittsburgh. As Strovers says, “The Northside has been fascinating because of the patchwork of diverse neighborhoods that have survived the wrecking ball and bulldozers of urban renewal efforts in the past. It is full of texture, diversity and amazing artifacts of architectural design and craftsmanship”.

His explorations of the Northside have brought him in contact with various neighborhood groups in Manchester, Allegheny West, and the Mexican War Streets. These explorations led to some stunning photographs of unique Mexican War Street houses, Manchester’s classic facades, and the rooftops of Allegheny West. Eventually, his Northside connections brought him to the Fund offices with an array of images that are now on display during regular office hours.

Along with professional quality photographic images, Strovers also provides free lance photography services, matting, mounting and framing, and custom calligraphy.

He also has a display of his works at the Northside Community Development Fund Offices, and sells his work at Penn Avenue and 20th Street in the Strip District on Saturdays.
